First impressions are all about looks. Sharp obviously knows this, as it has redesigned its Aquos line starting with the handsome D65 series. The 46-inch Sharp LC-46D65U LCD, which retails for $1,500, doesn’t disappoint. A reasonable price, energy-saving features, and superior picture quality all added up to a well-rounded entry-level TV.
Features and Design
For starters, the LC-46D65U has a very thin bezel, making it loom less in the living room than comparable sets like Panasonic’s current Viera plasmas, which we were able to compare the Sharp with side by side. Sharp chose to put the speakers along the bottom of the unit, reducing the overall width of the screen. The frame itself is a mixture of gloss and matte black, and has a nice boxy look. The unit is incredibly lightweight, at just a hair under 42 pounds (without the stand), so it’s easy for two people to move around. The included stand attaches using only eight screws, so we had our review unit set up in less than five minutes.

What’s unique about the D65 series is that its TVs are especially efficient, with very low power consumption. According to Sharp, in fact, D65 sets are 20 percent more efficient than their predecessors. All three TVs in the series (a 52- and 42-inch model are also available) are…

The once-mighty rear-projection television (RPTV) is poised to become a footnote in history, but its demise won’t be complete until the hugely popular flat-panel designs can match the value that RPTVs offer for the largest screens. The 65-inch Sharp Aquos LC-65D64U LCD television ($3,999.99 direct) was introduced more than a year ago, and today it still represents the best value among the largest 1080p flat-panel screens currently available. Sharp’s mega-size LC65D64U may seem like a costly alternative to similar-size RPTVs, but its picture quality can outperform any RPTV in several critical areas.
The LC-65D64U’s glossy black bezel measures 1.7 inches across along the top and is slightly wider along the sides. The D64 series is thinner (depth) and weighs less than the D62 series it replaces, although the LC-65D64U ’s 110.3pound weight increases to a hefty 121.3 pounds when it is attached to its rectangular-shaped table stand. Like the D62 series, the D64s also feature a stylishly curved lower bezel that partially conceals a narrow (1.5-inch-wide) mesh-topped stereo speaker that is as long as the TV is wide. The set’s universal remote control is Sharp’s premium baton design that features a fully backlit keypad.
A/V port connections on the LC-65D64U are divided across three locations: side- and downward-facing rear port panels, and a front-accessible selection of ports on the set’s right-hand side. Video…

Customer Reviews:
Strengths: Clean sleek modern design. Superb contrast ratio (seems even better than what specks indicate) Excellent video processor and super fast response times.
Weaknesses: No swivel option with supplied stand. Needs quite a bit of adjustments to the picture settings out of the box (especially for skin tones)Sound also weak however improves by adjusting factory setting.
Overall Evaluation: Loved the design – Sharp packed the beautiful 52 inch panel in to a surprisingly narrow bezel for a clean all glass look – Also very lightweight and slim depth. Ideal for wall mounting. So sleek, the dimension of this TV are comparable with many 46 inch LCD’s out there. Bottom mounted speakers curve slightly towards the middle making the TV smile at you

Good picture quality, haven?t tested it in 1080P yet as I am still on the fence about blu-ray or HD DVD however HD content from my cable provider with proper HDMI connectivity was immaculate. SD quality was also OK. Response time was great, I gave up on 120hz for the neat looks of this unit and I do not regret it, 60hz on this LCD were as good as can be. Factory picture settings are all set way too high. Adjust them accordingly to your preference keeping in mind that all scenes should look as natural as possible. You should…
